First easy-read menu launched in Letterkenny

By Dionne Meehan

THE No Barriers Foundation has launched Donegal’s first easy read menu at Bloem Café in the Letterkenny Retail Park.

This easy read menu was created in collaboration with the DS Champions graduates and with people who have lived experience with neurodiversity.

Pictures of each item are included on the menu making it easier for people who are neurodivergent to order by themselves.

“I love it! I can read the menu now and order by myself,” said Lilly Piper with a smile on her face.

Lily is a young girl with Down Syndrome who attends St. Bernadette’s Special School in Letterkenny.

A spokesperson from The No Barriers Foundation said: “This is much more than just a menu. It’s real action, a step towards promoting community inclusion and a rights-based approach within our community.”

The easy read menu is now available in Bloem Café, so why not try it out?

“Your feedback helps us build a more inclusive future, a future for everyone,” concluded the spokesperson.
