Counting is underway for the Glenties Electoral Area in Highlands Hotel this morning, where 13 candidates are vying for six seats.
A total of 85 candidates are running in a 37-seat constituency.
The race is on and it’s all to play for here, as the count centre is beginning to come alive with a buzz of activity as the first count results are eagerly awaited.
In Glenties, Independent councillor, Micheal Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig topped the poll yesterday and looks certain to be elected on first count today. Sinn Fein’s Marie Therese Gallagher and John Sheamuis O’Fearrraigh also look set to take a seat.
The final three seats are difficult to call ahead of the first count. There are three candidates south of the Gweebarra: Anthony Molloy (FF), Liam Whyte (Ind) and Brian Carr (SF).
Across the county, Lifford-Stranorlar looks set to stay the same.
In Milford, Independent Councillor, John O’Donnell topped the tally poll yesterday, followed by Liam Blaney. A battle is expected to ensue between Emer Friel (FG), Noel McBride (FG) and Independent sitting councillor, Ian McGarvey.
