First championship win a dream for Ciaran Moore

Ciaran Moore’s first championship game ended in superb style as Donegal beat Derry in Celtic Park.

The St Eunan’s clubman was a bit of a surprise name when first seen starting in the full back line against Roscommon in a challenge game in December but he has quickly made a name for himself and is one of the most important players in Jim McGuinness’ side.

“When you’re growing up these are the days you dream of and I’m just really grateful to Jim and everyone to give me the opportunity and hopefully I can keep going now and building on it.”

When the draw was made for this competition back in October, the meeting at Celtic Park was highlighted, especially with the return of Jim McGuinness to Donegal.

Mickey Harte was brought in as Derry manager which added even more spice to the tie and while Donegal had early focus on the league campaign, Moore hinted that this game was always in the back of their mind.

“The draw was made a good couple of months ago and we had our targets set on this game but we’re really happy to be able to capitalise on the kick out and get the goals.

“Our main objective was to get promoted to Division 1 again and thankfully we were able to do that. We knew this game was coming up from a long time ago so we had our sights set on it and we got over the line.

“It was no surprise they were favourites, they won Division 1 and they are at the top of the football ranks for the past year.

“But we knew if we stuck to the game plan and carried it out we’d have a good crack at them so we’re happy to get over the line.”
