THIS WEEKEND three Fintown brothers and their friend from Dungloe will be officially releasing their first original material in eight years.
Tomorrow night (Saturday), April 6, Shades will be performing their first full original show at the Greenroom Live, Main Street, Letterkenny.
With support from Ballybofey band, The CPS, the concert marks the launch of their new EP, Only On Sundays, which is available as a free download from, www.reverbnation.com/shadesband.
Shades is made up of three McGee brothers from Fintown, Michael (vocals/guitar), Kieran (lead guitar) and Dermot (drums) and their friend JP O’Donnell (bass) from Dungloe.
Michael lives in Ardee, Co. Louth, Dermot and JP in Letterkenny and Kieran in Ballybofey. They all play in cover bands, but come together for Shades for the original shows.
The band has been together for nine years and in 2005 released their first album, Turn The Page, recorded at Terry McGinty’s Valley Music Productions in Ballybofey.
They also released a number of singles for regional radio, including Stick it up your MTV and City of Angels, with City of Angels being most requested for six weeks running.
Shades returned to Terry McGinty’s studio on for the recording of their new EP and they spent several months fine-tuning the material.
Michael said: “I wrote the material on the EP but Dermot has been doing a lot of writing, as well, and that material will be on our next effort.”
“We are hoping to set up a short tour later in the year, whether it’s opening for bands or doing our own gigs on Saturday nights.
“So for now we are looking forward to our first show headline show with our original material at the Greenroom this Saturday night.”
