Finn Harps woman’s team seal first league win

The Finn Harps women’s team sealed their first win in senior football on Sunday afternoon, securing a superb 2-1 victory over Drogheda United at Finn Park.

Dessie McGlinchey’s side got off to a brilliant start in this encounter and hit the front after 17 minutes of play as Aishlinn Coll found the back of the net following a pass from Ella McHugh.

Nine minutes later, the Finn Park residents managed to double their advantage after Alannah Curran struck the ball home, leaving them two goals to the good at the interval.

The Louth outfit managed to pull a goal back after the restart, with Isabel Hetherton finding the back of the net to half the deficit midway through the second stanza.

However, the Navenny Street club managed to hold on for the remainder of the contest to seal the three league points.

This win will mean a lot to Dessie McGlinchey, his group of players and everyone associated with Finn Harps, securing their first league win at senior level.

The three points leaves Finn Harps sitting third in Group 1 although some teams behind them have games in hand to play.

The Finn Harps women are back in action next Sunday when they make the trip to face Athlone Town at the Athlone Town Stadium.
