Finn Harps suffer late cup heartbreak

Finn Harps 1 St Patrick’s Athletic 2

Finn Harps suffered late heartbreak in the FAI Cup quarter-final as St Patrick’s Athletic advanced to the final four.

The Harps took the lead with a quick counter attack as Patrick Ferry found Sean O’Donnell and the 19-year-old raced forward and curled a shot towards the near post and past Dean Lyness.

The home side went into the break 1-0 ahead but St Pat’s quickly responded with a penalty from Chris Forrester as Séamas Keogh fouled Jake Mulraney in the box.

There were few chances for either side as the game looked to be heading towards extra-time but substitute Thomas Lonergan made the difference as he got onto a ball into the box from the right and blasted a shot into the far top corner with 85 minutes gone.
