THE Government has this afternoon put in place the final piece of the jigsaw that will see work begin on Finn Harps’ new stadium.
Minister of State for Sport and the Gaeltacht Jack Chambers has signed off on the funding required to the long-talked about project over the line.
Work on the stadium had been stalled due to the lack of funding. But at this month’s meeting of Donegal County Council it was confirmed that a €1.5million gap in funding would be spilt three ways with the FAI, Finn Harps and Donegal County Council all providing €500,000.
Jack Chambers has now signed off on match funding which will allow construction work to begin almost immediately.

Speaking after holding virtual talks with Minister Chambers, Councillor Patrick McGowan said it was a huge day for the club and the county.
“It means an awful lot because for years Harps has been throwing good money after bad in terms of temporary accommodation and so on.
“This is huge and the fact that they intend to call it the Donegal Community Stadium is excellent,” Councillor McGowan added.
