A WELL-KNOWN Finn Harps fan and musician has decided it’s time to get rid of the rocker hair and beard, all in aid of two very good causes.

It has been four years Nigel Hegarty (24), from Letterkenny, has had his hair cut or been clean shaven and this weekend he is getting both done in aid of the Good and New Cancer bus service, as well as another cause very close to his hear, Finn Harps Football Club.

He said: “Finn Harps is something close to my heart, and we all have been, or know someone, affected by cancer at one stage or another.”

The Good and New Cancer bus runs a service for people from Donegal with cancer to Galway for treatment and has been running for nearly four years now.
The bus is sustained through donations from local people. No funding is provided from official bodies so support is very much needed.

Nigel said: “The bus needs €1,000 a week to run and frequently gets to a point where without donations the service would have to cease within a few weeks.

“Finn Harps are the local League of Ireland club and it needs all the help they can get to keep the show on the road and keep senior football in Donegal for the foreseeable future. I’d like my own son to have the same opportunity to grow up watching live football the same way I did.”

Nigel aims to raise over €1,000, all ending with the celebration music gig in Bar Rouge at The Grill, Letterkenny, this Saturday, where all profits on the night will go to the causes.

Playing the gig on the night will be local covers band High Tide, followed by Letterkenny based progressive rockers Kessler Effect. The Pox Men will bring their own blend of Celtic infused trad rock while finishing out the night are the rising stars of music in Donegal, The Capitol.

Donations can be made via paypal to nigel_hegarty@hotmail.com, or if you wish, you can donate via idonate.ie www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/29401_nigel-hegarty-s-fundraising-page.html

You can also make donations on Saturday night, where there will be a €5 entry on the door, as well as a raffle on the night and a few extra surprises.

The head and beard shave has been very kindly donated by Academy Hair and Beauty of Ballyraine in Letterkenny.
