We’re delighted with the outcome – that was the verdict from Molly Page, who was on the scoresheet for Finn Harps as they began life in the FAI Women’s Development League with a 2-2 draw against a highly rated Shelbourne side at Finn Park yesterday.
On what was an historic occasion for Harps – fielding a senior women’s team at national level for the first time – Page played a big part in helping her side to a point.
And afterwards she spoke about the importance of having a strong squad.
“It’s great to get going and it’s a new team and the girls were all great. We were able to bring on players at half-time with fresh legs and it’s a really good start. We also had a number of players missing through illness and injury,” she said.
Harps fell behind to a fine free from Madeleine McKinley just before the break, but bounced back with two second half goals from Sarah Mulvaney Kelly and Page before the Dublin side made it 2-2.
Recalling her own strike, Page said she was in the right place. “I was in a bit of shock, but it was nice to get a wee goal, it is a nice lift.”
This was a great start for Harps and she said there was a great atmosphere in the dressing room afterwards.
She also paid tribute to the crowd and thanked everyone for their support.
