FINN Harps are hopeful that left-back Ciaran Coll will fit to play in Friday’s night’s clash with First Division leaders Shelbourne at Finn Park despite sustaining bruised ribs.

There were worrying signs on Friday night in Galway when Coll left Eamonn Deacy Park by ambulance having taken a heavy bang to his side that left him concussed.

Coll received lengthy treatment, with a doctor being called from the main stand to attend to the player, who left the field on a stretcher.

The St Johnston man was assessed at Galway Regional Hospital and permitted to travel home with the team. X-rays at Letterkenny General Hospital confirmed that bruising was the extent of the damage.

“Ciaran got a knee into his ribs,” explained Harps manager Ollie Horgan.

“The doctor was a little concerned about his kidneys, but I think he’ll be ok. The doctor was out quickly and attended to him.”

Coll has been captaining Harps in the continued absence of regular skipper Kevin McHugh and his absence would be a major blow to the Donegal side..

However, the Harps boss is hopeful the 22-year-old will get the green light.

He said:  “Ciaran was a bit concussed as well on top of it, but please God he’ll be ok and right for next week. He has bruised ribs, but he should be ok for the Shelbourne game.”
