FINN Harps manager Ollie Horgan hopes to add 21-year-old defender Caoimhin Bonner to his squad this week.
The Derry native, who left Kilmarnock in January by mutual consent, is classed as a free agent, and will be signed for until the end of the season, subject to the granting of an international clearance certificate.
Horgan will hope to get the green light from the Football Association of Ireland to sign Bonner, a son of the former Harps player Liam Bonner.
Given that the player, comfortable at centre-back or right-back, was released from Kilmarnock in January, he is not governed by the transfer windows and should, therefore, be given the go-ahead to put pen to paper at Harps, who went top of the First Division on Friday night on goal difference thanks to a five-nil home win against Cobh Ramblers.
Bonner won an Ulster Senior League title with his native Derry City in 2012 and signed for Kilmarnock in 2013.
Harps are next in action on Saturday night when they host Galway FC at Finn Park (7.45pm). Captain Kevin McHugh did not train yesterday and is regarded as a major doubt, while Sean McCarron will be sidelined for another month, at least.
