Long trip home for Finn Harps after loss in Cobh

Cobh Ramblers 4-1 Finn Harps

Finn Harps will have a long trip home tonight as they were defeated 4-1 by Cobh Ramblers in St. Colman’s Park.

Finn Harps got off to a poor start as the home side took the lead in the first ten minutes as Conor Drinan played in a great cross from left wing into the six yard box for James O’Leary to bundle home.

The away side pressed for an equaliser and had chances through Keith Cowan, Caoimhin Porter and Noe Baba but Cobh ‘keeper Lee Steacy saved well from all three.

It went from bad to worse for the Harps on the half hour mark as Liam Kervick played a quick one-two with Wilson Waweru and running inside the left side of the box, Kervick fired across Tim Hiemer and found the far top corner.

Ten minutes later Finn Harps got one back as Séamas Keogh’s free-kick found Daithi McCallion at the back post and the defender headed across the box to Noe Baba who hooked the ball across and into the far corner.

Both sides had chances in the opening minutes of the second half, but Cobh went 3-1 up ten minutes into the half when a Jason Abbott cross was headed towards goal by Drinan. Hiemer saved well but could only push it out to Charlie Lyons who fired in from close range.

And with just over 20 minutes to go, the home side got their fourth as a long throw from Drinan was flicked on by Brendan Frahill, a couple of touches helped it on to Kervick who volleyed in from 12 yards out.

The loss moves Finn Harps down to ninth while Cobh move up to third with seven points separating the two sides.
