Finn Harps were crowned champions of the the inaugural League of Ireland Down Syndrome Futsal Cup.
The tournament took place in Gormanstown, Meath, and the Donegal side were impressive in victory.
Paired in a group with Sligo Rovers and Shelbourne, they came away with two 5-1 wins in their North West Derbies, while they took 4-1 and 4-2 wins over Shelbourne.
A 7-3 win over Wexford in the semi-final saw them meet Dundalk in the final and the side once again prevailed by a score of 6-2.
Finn Harps Football Social Responsibility Officer Stephen McNutt spoke to the Donegal News after the win.
“We had trials last week and we put the team together with players from Inishowen and the rest of Donegal, Tyrone and Derry.
“This will be a regular occurrence for the club to compete in a quarterly basis and it gives the players an opportunity to be seen by the FAI for the Down Syndrome Ireland team and the club deserve a lot of credit for getting involved.
“Tony McNamee and Danny Ferry deserve a lot of credit for the work they put in with the players on a regular basis.
“We were confident going and the men and women did fantastic from the squad of eight who all contributed massively and it’s nice to be coming home with a cup.
“The plan is to have the team parade the cup around Finn Park in July.”
