A LIFELONG Finn Harps supporter, Lorna McHugh has been appointed as the club’s new Finance Officer.

Harps have been without a Finance Officer since Denise O’Neill vacated the position during the 2013 season.

On Monday night at the Villa Rose Hotel in Ballybofey, McHugh, who lives in Burt, attended her first meeting in the role when she met with fellow board members, including another new recruit, Chantelle Grant who has taken up the role as the Club Registrar.

McHugh hails originally from Raphoe and can recall her early days following the club, during the halcyon years in the 1970s, along with her father, Michael Campbell.

She is well known around Finn Park as a fundraiser of some distinction and has been instrumental in the influential Inishowen Supporters Club over the years.

“We had a meeting in Buncrana one night and it just took off from there – the club doesn’t have many members now, but we’re still active and sell lottos and help out with fundraising,” she said.

These are difficult times, but Lorna, a former AIB employee, is well versed in the ways of the club by now.

“I am absolutely looking forward to it,” she said.

“There are some great people working very hard for Finn Harps. I had been approached before, but always wanted to just stay in the background with my fundraising. I was approached this time and just decided to go for it.

“Like anyone who gets involved, it’s because of a love of the club. I’d love to see everyone pulling together and would urge all supporters to row in behind us and to come forward if they have any suggestions for us.”

Chantelle Grant, meanwhile, is a coach with the Finn Harps schools programme and recently underwent a one day training programme at the FAI HQ in Abbotstown, to prepare for her new role dealing with player registrations. Grant was a part of the interview panel that selected Ollie Horgan as the new manager of the club, sitting in on the second round of interviews.

“The club would like to wish Lorna and Chantelle the best of luck in their new roles,” a club statement said.

“If there is anyone interested in discussing the possibility of joining the Harps off-pitch team please contact the club on 074-9130070 or email harpssec@gmail.com”
