THE appointment of a Donegal councillor to the Seanad averted the resignation of three Fine Gael councillors in the county, we can reveal.
Senior sources in the party in Donegal have confirmed to this newspaper that three Fine Gael councillors were considering their position amid disquiet and “rumblings” prior to the nomination of Senator Manus Boyle.
Mr Boyle, who is Donegal’s newest senator, signed in at Seanad Éireann on Tuesday having been nominated by Taoiseach Micheál Martin.
The Bruckless man served as a member of Donegal County Council for Donegal Town from June 2024 until earlier this month.
