THE FINDINGS of a report into the crisis at Letterkenny University Hospital’s emergency department are expected to be delivered early in the new year.

The HSE’s Performance Management and Improvement Unit (PMIU) began its investigation at the hospital’s ED on November 3. In an interview with the Donegal News on Friday, Saolta CEO Tony Canavan promised action will be taken to address problems.

“I would expect that most of their work would finish with us this evening,” Mr Canavan said.

“We will receive feedback from them before they leave. Their recommendations, and so on, will probably be put into a report for issue to us early in the new year.”

The review was triggered after 78 GPs and 11 consultants in Donegal wrote to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly warning of ‘service collapse’ in the absence of urgent action.
