THE final push is on to bring in much-needed funds for the Gynaecology Unit at Letterkenny University Hospital as the EverGlow Project draws to a close.
Last month a powerful video highlighting the silent grief of miscarriage was released by the team behind the Christmas Spirit LK Project.
The video was made to create awareness of the lack of services for women and their partners in the event of miscarriage, and to let people know that there is help available.
Founded in 2012, Christmas Spirit LK was an idea by local musician Pete Rose to make a difference to charities and causes across Donegal.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Mr Rose said he has been overwhelmed by the response to the project which remains open for donations until January 31.
The EverGlow project is the third in the past six years and is a follow up to the massively successful 2016 ‘Letterkenny Cares Project’ which broke its target of €2,500 in its first 10 Days and went on to raise over €7,500 for two deserving local charities.
This years video, accompanied by Coldplay’s Song EverGlow, has already reached more than 60,000 people on facebook.
The beneficiary of the EverGlow Project is the Gynaecology Unit at Letterkenny University Hospital as this is the front-line in the North West when someone loses a Baby.
For Mr Rose, this year’s project is particularly sensitive. It was motivated by the devastating impact of a miscarriage his wife suffered in 2016 and the affect that had on the couple.
Mr Rose said he hopes that the video which has now attracted national attention will help to highlight the issues that pregnancy loss and miscarriage bring.
With just days left until the final total is known, Mr Rose moved to thank the many people who have supported the project through donations. He added: “I would like to thank the many people who made this possible. The Cast and Crew of the EverGlow Project; Charlie Doherty, Eugene McGinty, Jason Daly, Eavan Hennessy, Jeremy Howard, Aidan Spence, Mike O’Connell, Mark Donnelly, Pat Campbell.”
He continued: “Special Thanks to Kevin Grimes of the Four Lanterns for his kindness. Also Thanks to Shelley Gillespie, Karen Murphy, Irene Lowry of Nurture, Janice Rose, Máirtin Kelly, Stephen Elliot, Babyzone & Michael Leddy. And the generosity of the people who contributed to our campaign; Letterkenny Gardai, Letterkenny Courts Service And in particular Judge Kelly in LK district court. Letterkenny Credit Union, The Donegal Garda Combined associations committee for serving and retired members, Martin and his team at Sonder, Tommy and Leah at Burrito Loco, Louise Flanagan and Edel McElhinney at LK Babies, Emmet and members of Rushe Fitness and to everyone who contributed to our GoFund Me Campaign.”
