PREPARATIONS are under way for Saturday, August 2 when Mulroy Bay will be host to its fifth sponsored swim in aid of the RNLI and other local charities.

The traditional Madge Carr swim will be from Kerrykeel to Woodquarter Pier and a new one mile event labelled the Mulroy Mile has now also be launched.
Approximately 80 years ago Madge Carr swam from Kerrykeel to Cranford during her teenage years, she was said to be a very strong swimmer who spent lots of her time swimming in the bay. It had taken until 2010 for others to recreate the swim and now we are delighted that we are holding this event for the fifth time.

The water temperature is rising and evenings are long, so there is no excuse not to start preparing for this unique, fun and well-organised event.
The challenge is set so swimmers young and old, beginners and advanced are all invited to register to participate in this exciting 850metre and one mile open water swim .

The one mile event was created to give those super strong swimmers a challenge and the event has already proved popular with many signing up to the Mulroy Mile challenge.
All those who feel they are up to either challenge are invited to sign up for the swim by filling out the online registration form which can be found on Facebook www.facebook.com/mulroyswim.

Alternatively you can call Helen on 0861902506 and she will organise your entry. Entries close on Thursday, July 31, so reserve your spot as soon as possible.
Entry to the swim is a full sponsorship card or €25 on the day which is required to cover each individual for insurance purposes.

Anyone wanting to take part in the swim needs to be a confident and strong swimmer and undertake a training regime up until the event. There will be entertainment at the pier, followed by a BBQ and entertainment in Logue’s of Cranford.
