Fianna Fáil Cllr Patrick McGowan has been selected to contest the June elections in the Lifford Stranorlar Local Electoral Area.
The party held its selection convention in the Villa Rose Hotel, Ballybofey, last night. This will be Cllr McGowan’s 6th consecutive local election campaign.
Fianna Fáil stalwarts, Minister Charlie McConalogue, Senator Niall Blaney, Cllr Gerry Crawford, and Pat the Cope Gallagher, were in attendance at the selection convention.
“The mood was hugely upbeat in anticipation for the campaign while Senator Blaney suggested the crowd cancel any holidays and make sure they’ve comfortable walking shoes for the upcoming canvasses,” said Gavin McGowan, Fianna Fáil Donegal PRO.
Tributes were paid to retiring Councillor Gerry Crawford who has decided not to contest this election having first been elected alongside Cllr Patrick McGowan in 1999. It’s expected Fianna Fáil Headquarters will announce a second candidate for the electoral area in the coming days.
