FIANNA FÁIL spent over €51,000 promoting their eleven successful
candidates through last year’s local elections. According to data
released by Donegal County Council, Fianna Fáil outspent all other
parties during last year’s campaign with a total of €51,602.Donegal County Council, Fianna Fáil
got 10 candidates elected for an overall spend on €15,974 while it cost Fine Gael €16,907 to get five candidates across the line. Figures, based on expenditure reported by the 37 successful candidates, show that councillors spent a total of €118,807 on their advertising campaigns. The top spending candidate in Donegal was Fianåna Fáil’s Ciaran Brogan in Letterkenny, who spent €8,758 on his re-election. Fianna Fáil’s Gerry Crawford €6,686 and Patrick McGowan €6,416 led the way in Lifford-Stranorlar while another FF candidate, All-Ireland winning captain Anthony Molloy (€2,883), spent the most in the Glenties MD. At the other end of the scale, two councillors spent less than one thousand euro – namely Michael McMahon (SF) and Michael McClafferty (FG) who spent €456 and €554 respectively.
