
THE fall in the number of people on the Live Register in Donegal in October was 278 on September and was three times the fall in numbers since October 2011.
The Central Statistics Office on Friday published the live register figures for last month showing that in County Donegal there were 20,390 signing on at the end of October compared with 21,110 in October 2011.
The numbers signing on in Letterkenny and Buncrana at the end of last month were down fractionally – Letterkenny had 5,884, down by 102, Buncrana had 4,330 down by 90.
Ballybofey numbers also fell last month – now 2,580, down by 29. Dungloe and Dunfanaghy showed a similar trend with Dungloe now standing at 2,089, down by 30 and Dunfanaghy down by nine on the previous month to 1,562.
Killybegs saw a fall of 27 down to 1,127 on the previous month.
The only towns which bucked the trend and showed an increase in the number of unemployed persons were Ballyshannon (up by four) and Donegal Town (up by five).
Of those on the live register in Donegal at the end of October, 12,823 were male and 7,567 were female.
The number signing on who were under 25 years of age were 3,944.
