Few businesses in Donegal have top energy rating

JUST two per cent of businesses in Donegal have an A energy rating, according to a new report that looks at the most energy inefficient places to run a business in Ireland.

The study has been compiled by Brosnan Facility Management who have reviewed data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) to reveal where in Ireland businesses are paying out extra in energy bills due to having a low Building Energy Rating (BER).

The report found County Sligo is the most energy inefficient place in the country with 18 per cent of non-domestic buildings receiving a G Rating.

Meanwhile County Kildare has the most energy efficient non-domestic buildings in the country with 5 per cent of all buildings receiving an A Rating.

In Donegal 11 per cent of non-domestic buildings received the lowest G rating.

“The lower the BER rating, the more you’re going to be paying on bills. We’re seeing businesses up and down the country struggling to make ends meet and some may not even realise that they may be wasting money due to their buildings low BER ratings,” said Ray Brosnan, Managing Director of Brosnan Facility Management.
Across Donegal 82 per cent of businesses received a C rating or less, according to the data.
