May his gentle Soul rest in eternal peace
I am greatly saddened to hear about Michael’s death. He was a courageous, kind and deeply caring soul. He and I became close when I made a TV half hour documentary about him for ITV called Feeney of the River, telling the story of his life and work with the peoples of the Amazon. I admired him for his bravery, insight and determination. Deeply compassionate he was a tenacious defender of the dispossessed. My thoughts are with his family. I would feel very honoured if any of them would care to contact me. Though separated by time and continents Micheal and I corresponded and stayed in touch. I shall miss him.
This is sad news. I was cameraman on the 1990 documentary entitled “Feeney of the River”, showing the excellent work he was doing in Tefé, Amazonas state, Brazil, and directed by John Swinfield for the Anglia TV series Heartland. Such a good experience to have filmed him assisting the local community.
