RATHMULLAN The Way Forward’ is seeking feedback following the recent submission of an application for Part 8 planning for the Rathmullan Regeneration Project.
The plans, which are now available for viewing, sees the regeneration of the Abbey, Battery and Pier Hotel sites in Rathmullan.
The plans detail the renewal, extension and repurposing of the Battery Fort to provide flexible indoor and outdoor space for exhibitions, conferences and events.
To facilitate the entrance to the Battery Fort a bridge link across the defensive moat will be constructed from the Glacis to the Battery Fort.
A new community hub, a digital hub, retail spaces, a community hall and a viewing balcony on the third floor overlooking Lough Swilly will be constructed at the junction of Kerrs Bay and Pier Road.
Pathways at Rathmullan Abbey will be enhanced with new gravel and a new interactive visitor experience is also planned.
There will also be improvements to existing road and pedestrian infrastructure at the junctions between main-street and Wesleyan Street, Kerrs Bay and Pier Road.
A new small public amenity space is planned for Rathmullan Abbey which will be bounded by the sea wall.
There is also plans to declutter the Putting Green area by removing the existing fence from the Glacis area.
Speaking to the Donegal News, spokesperson for the ‘Rathmullan The Way Forward’ community group Michael McGlynn said the views of the local residents matter.
“We need positive submissions, not only for planning but for funding as well.
“The whole process of applying for planning has now begun and people are being asked to make submissions about that and hopefully all or most of them will be positive.
“Then it’s up to the planners to make their judgement and if the planning department recommend it, it will go to a council meeting on January 30, 2023.
“The councillors will then have the final say on the process.
“It is vital for the success of the project that the Planning Department receive your feedback on the proposed designs.
“If planning is granted your positive comments will be included in our Funding Application and your response will show community support, adding considerable strength to our request for funds to develop the project.
“We are grateful to all of you who have already responded and indicated their support for the development,” he said.
