DEPUTY Joe McHugh reminded farmers this week that they have until February 19 to submit their proposals regarding the implementation of the CAP Pillar 11 funding.
Following a meeting with farmers in Inishowen on Thursday last Deputy McHugh said that prior to the recent announcement of the CAP Pillar II funding, he had a number of consultations with the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Simon Coveney, regarding different sections of the Pillar II funding.
“These talks were based on previous discussions I had with farmers throughout the county, where they highlighted specific issues, both positive and negative, and concerns they had on areas which they felt needed addressing.
“Our follow up meeting which took place last week, was to discuss the Minister’s Pillar II funding announcement. While the commitment made by the Irish Government to the farming industry was widely welcomed, there were a number of constructive suggestions made at the meeting and I was informed that many at the meeting have already submitted proposals regarding the rolling out of Pillar II and specific suggestions on the distribution,” Deputy McHugh said.
He described that meeting as really informative and very helpful in terms of understanding the needs and challenges farmers are facing and how this funding can greatly improve their circumstances.
“I want to take this opportunity to remind anyone who is thinking of submitting a proposal that the deadline is Wednesday, February 19.”
