FARMERS in Donegal are being urged to ensure they have adequate security measures in place following the theft of fuel from a tractor.
The fuel was stolen from a tractor that was parked in a farmyard in the area of Kimmid, Pettigo, between 6pm on Tuesday, June 4 and 9.30am the following morning.
Gardaí are appealing to residents in the area to make contact with gardai in in Ballyshannon on (071) 9858530 if they observed any suspicious activity or vehicles between those dates.
Farmers in that area are also being urged to to check their farmyards in case other thefts may have occurred.
A garda spokesperson said: “We advise all farmers to ensure that they have adequate security measures in place on their farm. Please ensure that your shed doors are locked when the yard is unattended and that all machinery is locked up. Do not leave keys in machinery.”
The garda spokesperson added that “CCTV should be considered if there is machinery of a high value on the farm and ensure that there is good lighting in and around the farmyard”.
If any farmers want advice in relation to security measures for their farm, they can contact Sergeant Fergus McGroary, Divisional Crime Prevention Officer, at Letterkenny Garda Station on (074)9167100.
