FARMERS from across Donegal will stage a peaceful protest this evening along the dual carriageway in Letterkenny.
The protest by Donegal IFA is being held as part of a nationwide action in support of farmers protesting in other EU countries such as Germany, France, and Belgium.
Farmers will meet in their tractors at 7pm along the Hard Shoulder of the Dual Carriageway on the inbound lane from the Manor Roundabout.
“We plan to avoid traffic disruption. This will be a peaceful protest. Come along and support our Irish Farmers,” said the organisers.
IFA President Francie Gorman said the decision to hold the protests follows a meeting of the IFA National Council yesterday.
“Farmers here have been watching the protests across Europe. They are just as frustrated by what is happening as farmers in other countries. They feel they are being regulated out of business by Brussels bureaucrats and Department of Agriculture officials who are far removed from the reality of day-to-day farming,” he said.
“Irish farmers are pro-EU, but there is mounting frustration about the impact of EU policy on European farmers, and its implementation here in Ireland. The general feeling amongst farmers across the EU is that ‘enough is enough.”
