FARMERS’ ALLIANCE is set to hold their national launch meeting in the Athlone Springs Hotel, on April 16 at 1.30pm.
Farmers’ Alliance is a new approach to a farm representation group, set up by Redcastle man, Liam McLaughlin.
The group was set up in a bid to tackle the marginal profitability, the uncertainty and the viability of farming at production stage and the absence of a meaningful share of the profit at the processing stage.
The group aims to connect with the consumer through awareness raising events informing consumers of the quality of Irish farm produce, the true cost of its production and the importance of food security.
The group hopes to work alongside small-scale food processors, agri. contractors, small merchants and farmers markets.
A host of special guests have been invited to the national launch meeting of Farmers’ Alliance in Athlone.
Dairy farmer, Stewart Waller from County Monaghan, Kevin Quinn from Galway-Athlone Greenway, Suckler farmer, Sean Harris from County Waterford, Poultry farmer, Alo Mohan from County Monaghan, Sheep and calf to beef farmer, Cormac Power from County Galway and Brendan Guinan of ‘Fíor Bhia Farm will all be in attendance.
Verona Murphy TD and Michael Fitzmaurice TD will make speeches on the day.
Following this, Caroline van der Plas, who is the leader of the Dutch BBB party, will address the audience before holding a Q&A session.
