GAEIL Fhánada’s Daibhid Lynch was delighted to have gotten over the line in Saturday’s clash with Realt na Mara to secure the Under 21 ‘D’ Championship title.
The Fanad men ran out eventual four-point winners at Pairc MacDiarmada in Lifford over the Bundoran outfit and Lynch expressed that it was great to get a trophy under the belt for the club.
“It’s good to get it over and done with. I suppose it’s not been the longest year but it’s good to get the boys all together and play with boys that you’ve been playing with from Under 10s and get a trophy under the belt.”
With heavy rain present prior to throw-in on Saturday, conditions proved challenging for both sets of players, which Lynch agreed with but feels that they grew into proceedings.
“It kind of rained before the game there and it changed things even more. It was very slippery and it was hard to get the hand on the ball in the first five minutes but we managed to grow into it.
The opening quarter of Saturday’s showpiece was finely balanced however, a pair of goals helped to turn the contest in the Fanad men’s favour and they never looked back after this.
“That’s it, goals win games. They scored more points than us in the end but we managed to put three goals away so that’s the big one today.”
The Pairc Ui Shiail residents will be delighted to have a piece of silverware to show for their efforts this term.
Saturday’s Man of the Match discussed that it’s great for some of the individuals that have never lifted a cup to have a taste of success before their journey into senior football at the club.
“That’s it. I know our captain Conor Heraghty said at the start of the year that he hadn’t won a medal for Fanad Gaels in his whole life.
It’s great for boys who aren’t going to be playing any more underage football to get a medal. Even for some of the younger players, it’s just great for everyone and it’s great for the club.”
