THIS weekend Donegal Mixed Martial Artist Steve Coll will make his debut at Featherweight in one of the biggest MMA competitions in Europe – Cage Warriors.
Cage Warriors 55 will be staged at The Helix in Dublin on Saturday night, June 1, where Steve will face Liam James of the Dublin-based club, Straight Blast Gym (SBG), in his tenth professional fight.
Steve’s long-time cornerman and co-head instructor at Rilion Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy in Letterkenny, Brian ‘Barney’ Coyle said it promises to be an exciting fight with both fighters coming back from defeats.
“We have been looking at videos of Steve’s opponent and we are confident that he can take the victory. It will be by no means an easy task, but hopefully things will go according to plan.”
This is the first time that Stephen is competing at Featherweight (66kg), having previously fought in the Lightweight division.
Barney said that this is a very big step for Steve who has now been fighting as a professional for three years. “There is a good crowd of supporters going down and we are confident that Steve will do very well in his first fight at Featherweight,” said Barney.
Topping the card is Dubliner Cathal Pendred of SBG who has received a lot of media attention recently, including an interview on the Late Late Show and an upcoming MTV documentary.
Cage Warriors Welterweight Champion Pendred will be defending his title against Che Mills.
