A FAMILY with five generations were finally able to meet up in Letterkenny last month after Covid-19 restricted them from all being together.
Betty Doogan, 84, from Kincasslagh, Noreen Higgins, 65, from Slieve Sneacht, Letterkenny and Pauline Higgins, 41 and Amy Higgins, 22, all came together with Amy’s daughter Molly Danagher who will celebrate her first birthday on Saturday, August 28.
Molly was born during the pandemic, but due to the various restrictions the family have found it difficult to meet up all together.
“I’ve been wanting this photo since Molly was born,” her great great grand mother said.
Granny Pauline Higgins, who works in Brendan McGlynn, Estate Agents, Letterkenny, said it was so nice that everyone was able to see each other in person.
“Due to Covid it wasn’t easy getting us all together. I didn’t even get to spend much time with Amy during her pregnancy as she lives in her own house. It was a welcome distraction to what was going on around us and gave us all something to look forward to during the pandemic. Granny (Betty Doogan) came out from Kincasslagh for a few days during the recent spell of good weather and we finally managed to get the photograph taken.
“Not everyone gets to see five generations and we’re the eldest girl in each generation too. Granny (Betty) was always telling us that we should have our children young. She was like a second mum to me and I see that she is now giving Amy advice. It was lovely to see her with Molly.
“Everyone kept saying how rare it is that there’s five generations of family so I really wanted everyone to come together to meet Molly. Who knows maybe there’ll be six generations one day!” Pauline said.
