A SERIES of events take place in east Donegal this month to celebrate the Family History Festival.
The festival begins on Monday August 22 with an Open Day at Monreagh Heritage Centre from 10am to noon. This is followed by an Ulster Scots cookery demonstration by Paula McIntyre in Monreagh Community Hall from noon to 3pm. Vintage street games and Linen Flax Demonstrations at Monreagh Heritage Centre from 3pm to 5pm will finish the first day of celebrations.
On Tuesday August 23 Family History Consultations with a panel of local historians will be held in Monreagh Heritage Centre from 10am to 1pm. Later in the day, a tour of Taughboyne and Monreagh Graveyards takes place from 2pm to 3.30pm.
A night with local authors will be held on Wednesday, August 24 from 7pm to 10pm.
Migration from Donegal and Ulster with Dr William Roulston, Dr Liam Campbell Dr Patrick Fitzgerald and Brian Mitchell will be held in Monreagh Community Hall on Thursday, August 25 from 7pm to 10pm.
The following evening there will be a Bluegrass and Country Night by Knotty Pine and Megan Villis in Monreagh Community Hall from 7pm to 10pm.
The week-long event finishes on Saturday, August 27, with a cultural bus tour of the Foyle Valley from 10am to 5pm. Pick-up will be from Monreagh Heritage Centre.
