Love was truly in the air as Ramelton native Aoife Gallagher and Joseph Proctor from Arranmore island celebrated their special day. The couple’s wedding was a day filled with joy, laughter, and plenty of heart-warming moments.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Aoife shared her journey down the aisle: “We got married in Ramelton followed by our reception at the one and only Silver Tassie Hotel.”
The Silver Tassie was the perfect venue, with Aoife describing how much it exceeded their expectations.
“The wedding day was the best day that we ever wished for. We couldn’t fault the Silver Tassie at all. It was just amazing, Georgina and John, the wedding coordinators, were fantastic.”
The couple, parents to their young sons John (4) and Fionn (5 months), had a busy lead-up to the big day. But with the support of family and friends, everything came together beautifully.
“We were very lucky to have amazing family and friends that helped us a lot with the organisation and lead-up to the big day. It was busy, I tell you! But I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
She added: “The day of the wedding went as smooth as silk. The Silver Tassie staff and food were amazing. Some people are still dreaming about that gravy, so that’s a good sign!”
One of Aoife’s most cherished moments came in the early hours of the wedding morning, when she saw her two sons dressed in their little suits.
“They were so handsome. And just remembering how lucky we are.”
Another unforgettable moment was walking into the reception, surrounded by loved ones.
“Our hearts could literally burst with all the love in the room.”
The couple knew how to throw a party, with the combined energy of their friends and family from Arranmore and Ramelton creating an electric atmosphere.
“When the Arranmore and Ramelton crowd get together, you’re just asking for a big, big party. And that’s what we had.”
With a dream team of talented professionals by her side, Aoife and Joseph’s wedding was executed flawlessly.
Aoife, who works at Terence Boyle Hairdressing in the Silver Tassie Hotel, shared that her wedding day preparations were in the best hands.
“I was very lucky to have all hands on deck that morning. Along with the fabulous Kerrie James makeup. No better gang! Terence sorted out the groomsmen’s hair, so everyone was looking tip-top shape for the big day.”
The couple also had Paul Doherty, a well-known local photographer, to capture the magic.
“He’s the best in the business. He did a few of my friends’ weddings before, so I knew he was the right guy. Him and his team were so calm, so professional, and also great craic despite all the rain we had.”
For Aoife, there was a sentimental connection to her father, John, who was also from Arranmore.
She had spent many childhood summers on the island, creating lasting memories. It was a place close to her heart, and now, sharing it with her husband Joseph makes their love story even more meaningful.
The couple’s romance began in the summer of 2010, when they met, and started dating that autumn.
Their first date may have been at good old Supermac’s in Galway City Centre, but 12 years later, Joseph made Christmas 2022 unforgettable when he got down on one knee.
As for their future plans, the couple is excited for their honeymoon in Santorini, Greece, this October.
