THE beautiful weather throughout Friday added to what was a very special day for the family and many friends of Mary Rose Dullaghan, whose memory was celebrated with a charity golf day at Letterkenny Golf Club.
Mary Rose (née Kelly) from Cashelreagh, Newmills, passed away after a brave battle with illness last August.
The day of golf was organised as a tribute to her love and wonderful talent for the sport.
She was a member of Letterkenny Golf Club and a popular member of the Station House Golf Society (formerly the Drum Bar Golf Society) of which she was a former Captain.
Mary Rose would also have celebrated her birthday last Wednesday and it was to mark her birthday that the idea of a charity day came about.
Her husband Owenie and the Dullaghan family chose three charities to benefit from the day – the Ross Nugent Foundation, Beaumont Hospital, Friends of St Luke’s Hospital and Friends of Letterkenny University Hospital.
Aside from the golf, local businesses and sponsors also rowed in behind the fundraiser and a host of wonderful prizes were on offer for a special draw which took place at a packed Station House Hotel on Friday night.
It was a great way to round off a hugely successful day and Owenie Dullaghan was keen to thank everyone who played their part in the event when he spoke to the big crowd in the Station House.
Owenie said it had been a very emotional day for all the family and he said nobody would have been prouder than Mary Rose herself to see so many of her friends gathered together and supporting such a worthy cause.
The charity event was organised by members of the Station House Golf Society, led by Paddy Delap and Cathal Sheridan. Society captain, Brian Kelly was also among those to address Friday night’s event, and said Mary Rose was dearly loved by everyone in their society and it was fitting that they got the chance to honour her memory with a charity golf day.
The MC on the night was Marty Friel from Highland Radio – a close friend of Mary Rose and the Dullaghan family. Marty oversaw the draw and also paid his own lovely tribute to Mary Rose.
The prizes for the golf were also presented in the Station House and the overall winner was Ed Wickes, a member of the golf society and also the Friends of Letterkenny Hospital, one of the charities.
He stressed how the Friends of LUH were delighted to have been chosen as a charity from the day and congratulated the organisers of the event and the Dullaghan family for all their hard work in making sure the day proved a success.
