POBALSCOIL Chloich Cheannfhaola (PCC) haS won the top prize in the Gael Linn Radio Competition, it was announced today (Friday), May 6.

The winning team was presented with a cheque for €650 for taking the top prize in the annual competition run to showcase young radio talent, in particular in transition year.

Póilín Nic Géidigh, Pádraig Ó Gribín, Cillian Ó Fearraigh, Riain Ó Laifeartaigh, Aodán Ó Fearraigh and Tara Ní Fhearraigh were the pupils on the winning team, who had been supported by their teacher Caitlín Nic Aoidh.

There will be great celebrations in the school for a while as another programme – Stair agus Seanchas Thulacha Bheaglaíoch – made by the transition year class, with help from teacher Karen Ní Fhrighil, won first prize in Section A (for schools in which the Irish language is the medium) also.

Judge Seán Ó hÉanaigh, Programmes Editor at RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, said: “The winning team had done a lot of research work, and presented it in a very understandable manner, and they also went out in the community and spoke to people about the subject, and I feel those interviews added greatly to the programme.

“Of course, emigration is very topical at the moment as well, and all in all I think that the team put together an excellent programme.”

A special programme with the winners, presented by Seán Bán Breathnach, will be broadcast at 2pm on Friday, May 10 on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
