Fahan Health Centre reopens for two days a week

A nurse will be based out of Fahan Health Centre every Monday and Thursday from today onwards after a successful community campaign against the closure.

The campaign grew after rumours surfaced that the nurse would be relocated from Fahan to Buncrana. However in July the HSE confirmed that the public health nurse would remain in place despite the creation a new ‘aligned area’ with Buncrana and Muff.

From today, the public health nurse will provide an hour on Mondays from 9am – 10am, and another at 4-5pm on Thursdays.

The organisers of the Save Fahan Health Centre campaign, Carmel Lynch and  Jaqui Molloy expressed their joy over the news, thanking everyone who had shown their support.

They said: “Since the beginning of July, when we put ourselves forward to bring back a service that was a huge part of the community, we could not stand by and do nothing.

“We were up against many an obstacle but we never lost hope we had the best community behind us.
In celebration, the group are asking everyone who helped with the campaign to join them as they take their posters down from the health centre.
Joining them will be Fr. Paddy Baker, Cancer campaigner Betty Holmes, SF TD Padraig Mc Laughlin and SF Councillor Jack Murray who have all played a part in the campaign.
If you would like to be a part of the photo, members are meeting at Fahan Health Centre at 5.15pm tonight (Monday)
