Extra patrols being set up in Letterkenny over anti-social incidents

GARDAI are to set up increased patrols in Letterkenny in the wake of a rise in antisocial behaviour.

While remaining tight-lipped about where the incidents have been taking place and the nature of them, gardaí in Letterkenny have said they have received recent reports of anti-social behaviour involving groups of young people at various locations within the town.

Gardaí have said that in response to these incidents and in a bid to reassure the community, additional patrols are being set up at numerous locations.

Anyone who is subject to anti-social behaviour or who witnesses any type of anti-social behaviour is urged to contact gardaí.

“We wish to reassure the public that each matter reported to us will be fully investigated and we advise anybody who is subject to any type of antisocial behaviour to report the matter to us without delay. Additional patrols will now take place at the locations that have already been brought to our attention.”

Meanwhile, Letterkenny councillor and Chairman of the Joint Policing Committee (JPC),Letterkenny has welcomed the move.

Cllr McMonagle told the Donegal News the Courtyard Shopping Centre previously experienced some difficulties with young people.

“I asked gardaí to do more patrolling there at certain times and it seems to have settled the matter.”
