EXTORTION, robbery and hijacking crimes in Donegal Garda Division have seen a 160 per cent jump.
Thirteen robbery, extortion and hijacking offences were committed in Donegal Garda Division in Quarter 4 (October to December) 2023, according to latest figures published by Central Statistics Office (CSO).
This compares with five offences in the same period in 2022.
Burglary, theft and fraud offences all saw increases, according to the figures.
Forty-one offences of burglary were recorded by the CSO in Q4 2023, compared with 25 in the last three months of 2022.
Theft and related offences also saw a rise in Donegal Garda Division.
A total of 208 offences were recorded between October and December 2023, compared with 153 in Q4 2022.
Recorded fraud deception offences almost doubled, according to the figures.
There were 91 fraud deception offences recorded in Q4 2023, compared with 48 in the same timeframe the year previous.
There were 107 recorded offences of theft from shops in the last three months of 2023, a rise of 36 from the same period in 2022.
Offences against government, justice procedures and organisations more than doubled in Q4 2023 when 46 offences were recorded.
This compares with 22 in Q4 2022.
Offences while in custody and breach of court orders also doubled, with 42 recorded in Q4 2023 compared with 20 in the last three months of 2022.
Sexual offences saw a slight drop, with 35 recorded in 2023 Q4.
This compares with 38 in Q4 2022.
Public order offences saw also saw a slight decrease, of five offences, but overall the recorded figures remained high, with 244 in Q4 2023 compared with 249 in the same timeframe in 2022.
