Exhibition celebrating the beauty of red hair opens in Gaoth Dobhair

ARTIST Maria Gascol is pictured speaking at the opening of the RUA Exhibition in Ionad Naomh Padraig, Dore, Gaoth Dobair last night.

The exhibition is a celebration of the uniqueness and beauty of red hair.

The quirky initiative was the brainchild of Gortahork-based visual artist Maria who works from Gaoth Dobhair.

A native of Spain, Maria’s interest in red hair began with its rarity in her home country.

The project, RUA, which is supported by Ealáin na Gaeltachta and the local Irish Language Planning Office, Meitheal Pleanála Teanga an Iarthuaiscirt, is an exciting, multifaceted exploration of red hair.

The opening of the exhibition was due to take place last Friday night, October 3, but was postponed for a week due to Storm Amy.

Photographer Tommy Curran went along on Friday night to capture some images from the event and you can see more of his photos in Monday’s edition of the Donegal News.
