THE former wife of Dr James McDaid has re-married. Marguerite McDaid married Professor Bertram Watson Clough last weekend at the Unitarian Chapel in Godalming, Surrey, where they are members.

Her daughter, Nicola Cook, was matron of honour and Bertram’s son, Johnathan Clough, was best man. The couple first met two years ago in London. They are now living in Winchester, Hampshire, enjoying retirement. Speaking to the Donegal News from her home on Wednesday, Marguerite, said she was ‘very happy’.

“We got married last weekend and it was lovely. My new husband is a wonderful English man. I know a lot of people back in Donegal that I have lost contact with, would like to know of the happy ending to my tale of woe down through the years,” she said.

She has been living in England for the past 15 years and met Betram at an event in London when living in Oxfordshire.
“Life is treating me really well now. The place where we live now in Winchester is made famous by a song about the local cathedral. It is a beautiful village. We spend most of the time travelling,” she added.

Marguerite split from former Government Minister Dr James McDaid in high-profile circumstances in 1998 and they divorced in 2005.
“James is happy too in his marriage and we keep in contact, mostly about the kids,” she said.
