Exciting new Irish Language reading pack for schools launched by Donegal County Library in Edeninfagh.

Edeninfagh Hall was the site for the launch of a new Irish Language reading resource on Wednesday March 15.

The aim of “Ag Ceiliúradh Teanga í a Léamh” is to support adults, whether that be parents, guardians, teachers and others so that they can share Irish Language books with the young people in their lives. The resource pack is available free to download online from www.childrensbooksireland.ie and a printed copy has now been produced for every school in Donegal.

The resource pack focuses on fifteen high-quality books for readers from 0 to 18, with questions, challenges and activities that will allow them to further engage with the stories. Donegal County Library have 30 copies of each title available to borrow as part of the class set collection.

Speaking at the launch, Leas-Chathaoirleach of Glenties Municipal District, Councillor Michael McClafferty, explained how “Donegal County Library and Children’s Books Ireland deserve high praise for the excellent work they are doing to promote the reading of Irish here in Donegal and throughout the country. Books are a great help when learning a language because there is richness in the words and phrases. You learn without realising it.”

Cathaoirleach of the Coiste na Gaeilge, Councillor Michael Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig spoke about the importance of supporting Gaeltacht schools and communities like Éadan Fhionn Fhraoich.

Schools and parents can find out more by contacting their local library.
