A PRE-SCHOOL in Raphoe, facing disaster due to the defective concrete blocks crisis, is delving deep into its past in a desperate bid to ensure a brighter future.
Years ago, cracks began to surface within the walls of Raphoe Community Playgroup, signaling underlying structural problems long before the wider defective blocks scandal came to light.
Despite efforts to sort out these issues through repairs, the gravity of the situation has escalated to the point where demolition is now deemed necessary. Teachers and toddlers will soon have to leave the existing building.
Former pupils and their families, connected to the pre-school since 1982, are invited to gather for a large group photograph. The unique picture will be taken by a drone on the grounds of the school at lunchtime on Sunday.
It’s happening as part of a campaign to save Raphoe Community Playgroup. Also on Sunday, hundreds of photos, detailing the school’s impressive history, will be on display for visitors to enjoy.
Later on Sunday, at 3pm, a charity football tournament is due to take place at Drumuneney, Raphoe, to raise funds for the playgroup. It has been organised by Raphoe Town Football Club.
To take part in the group photo, please arrive at Raphoe Community Playgroup by 1pm on Sunday.
