POLLING station officials in Donegal say they expect a surge in voters later this evening.
Since 7am voters have been going to the polls to decide on the future of the eighth amendment.
Donegal is expected to be one of the tightest calls of all Irish constituencies with both the ‘yes’ and ‘no’ lobbies claiming strong support on the doorsteps.
The good spell of weather is expected to boost turn out and officials at polling stations around Donegal say they are bracing themselves for a burst of activity after 5pm.
This morning’s busy trend, which saw people queuing before 7am when voting commenced, has continued over lunchtime and reflects what has been happening nationally all morning and into the early afternoon.
If you haven’t cast your vote yet, here is what you should bear in mind:
Bring your polling card or a form of ID such as passport, driving licence, employee ID card, student card or bank/Credit Union book containing your address
Strictly no canvassing or the wearing of any ‘yes’ or ‘no’ material is permitted when voting
Ballot boxes close at 10pm this evening
Counting begins at 10am in Aura Leisure Centre
