IN the year 2000, Veronica Maguire made a New Year’s resolution to take up some art classes in Stranorlar.
Twenty two years on and Veronica is set to showcase a collection of her paintings as she brings her new exhibition ‘Escape into Art’ to Letterkenny.
The exhibition is being launched at the Regional Cultural Centre on Saturday, November 11 at 6pm.
The exhibition consists of 24 paintings Veronica produced over lockdown of places she wanted to go to but couldn’t.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Veronica said the inspiration behind her art comes from many places.
“My inspiration could come from the colour of the sky, the sea or the woods.
“I particularly enjoy creating seascapes, landscapes and more recently cityscapes.
“Usually, if something attracts me, I paint it,” she said.
Using alcohol ink to create her newest series of paintings, Veronica said lockdown was a great time to experiment.
“When using alcohol ink, the result is a series of very unusual special effects in your paintings.
“You will never get the exact painting again as the colours are much harder to control compared to acrylic or watercolour paint,” she said.
However, this is not the first time Veronica’s work has been showcased.
At Easter this year her work was showcased in Glebe House and Gallery, in the book ‘Artist eye on Galway’ and the Royal Academy Arts 140th Annual Exhibition in Belfast.
Her painting that was showcased in Belfast was called ‘Homes of Donegal’ which now hangs proudly in Stormont Castle.
Morgan Ferriter, a local artist and musician will be launching the exhibition on the night before providing some entertainment in the form of traditional music.
The new exhibition will be available to view in the Regional Cultural Centre until Saturday, December 17.
