ESB working to restore power across Donegal

MORE than 500 homes across Donegal were left without power following overnight outages caused by high winds.
Storms lashed most of the county on Thursday night with blizzard-like conditions turning to strong rain this morning. The gusts caused damage to power lines in many parts of Donegal.
The ESB have confirmed that workers are currently working to try and rectify a number of faults as more than 420 homes were left without power in West Donegal between Creeslough and Gweedore.
Meanwhile, the north and south of the county were also badly affected by the stormy conditions. Problems in Buncrana are being addressed with 59 customers now outstanding. As of this morning, 89 customers are without power in Milford North, and 25 in Bundoran.
The ESB have said it is hoped to have power restored to all affected areas as soon as possible.
On the weather front, however, the bad news is that it’s not looking set to get any better. Donegal residents have been warned to brace themselves for more bad weather over the next couple of days.
Conditions are expected to deteriorate over the weekend. Rain and sleet is forecast to move in from the south late on Friday afternoon turning increasingly to snow.
A weather warning has been issued by AA Roadwatch who have advised extreme caution on the roads with driving conditions set to become difficult as a result of the weather.
The AA report issued a snow and ice warning for Donegal. It said: “Rain, sleet and snow mix will give some lying snow accumulations especially on hills but also at some lower levels. There will be blizzards and drifting in the strong winds. Rainfall warning for Munster, Connacht and Leinster. Widespread heavy rain or prolonged showers will give rise to some spot flooding.
