Errigal College teacher, Mrs Catriona Hasson, won the Irish Open Irish Dancing championships in Ashbourne, County Meath recently.
Her success means that she has qualified for the World Irish Dancing championships which will be held in Brighton, England in April, 2016.
Catriona’s success comes as no surprise at all to her colleagues and students in Errigal College. This is Catriona’s second All Ireland title, having won the Irish Open in 2011, having already won the European Irish Dancing Championships in 2010. In 2012 Catriona came third in the World Championship.
She has been teaching Geography and English in Errigal College since 2009. Catriona gives up her lunchtime every Monday and Thursday to teach Irish dancing to her Errigal College students, and to choreograph them for upcoming school plays and shows.
“I am thrilled to be the All Ireland champion again. After I won it in 2011 I took a few years off from dancing and Martin and I had my gorgeous wee boy, Niall. Hopefully he’ll bring another All Ireland title to Donegal when he is older. My husband Martin hopes it will be for football though!”
Errigal College Principal, Mr Charlie Cannon spoke of his delight. “We are very proud of Catriona’s achievement. She teachers Irish dancing to our students and has now won a second All Ireland. Tremendous achievement!”
Donegal ETB’s 2016 FET (Further Education and Training) Fair takes place on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny from 11am to 3pm.
