GARDA investigations are continuing into circumstances surrounding the death of Erin Gallagher (13) in Ballybofey on Saturday.
According to a senior garda in Donegal the investigations are part of a coroner’s inquiry.
There are also growing concerns as calls get louder on the social networking site Facebook for those alleged to have bullied Erin to be ‘named and shamed’.
Gardai have appealed for calm and are worried that some local people have been named online.
Two local teenagers presented to local gardai on Tuesday and their parents were given security advice, due to fears for the teenagers’ safety.
‘Small community’
One garda source was quoted as saying: “It’s a small community and there would be tensions could rise even further and that this situation could get out of hand. Obviously no one wants that.”
Erin was laid to rest on Wednesday amid scenes of great anguish. Among those comforting her mother Lorraine were her daughter Shannon and her son Sean James. In attendance were members of the local boxing and GAA clubs of which Erin was a member.
After a hard-hitting homily by Fr. John Joe Duffy, the cortege made its way to Castlefin for a private burial.
