THE process of equipping Lettermacaward Health Centre is delaying the reopening of the surgery.
The practice has been closed for renovation works, with patients attending Glenties Primary Care Centre in the interim.
In a statement to the Donegal News, the HSE confirmed renovation works at Lettermacaward Health Centre have been completed, but added further infrastructure works were ongoing.
“The process of equipping the building, including the installation of broadband, is now underway.
“Once this work has been completed, GP clinics in Lettermacaward will recommence.
“While this work is being completed, patients will continue to be offered appointments in Glenties Primary Care Centre.
“The HSE wishes to apologise to patients for any inconvenience caused.”
Donegal TD and Sinn Fein Spokesperson on Finance, Deputy Pearse Doherty has called for the GP surgery to be reopened without delay.
He told a meeting with the regional head of the HSE this week that the reopening of the facility should be “treated as a matter of urgency by the HSE”.
He said: “The community of Leitirmacaward were reassured that this facility would be reopened when renovation work was being carried out.
“This work has now long been completed yet centre remains closed. This is simply not acceptable.
“I have asked the HSE to provide me with a report as to when the centre will reopen.
“I will continue to pursue this issue. The community of Leitir and the surrounding areas deserve nothing less.”
