EOGHAN ‘Ban’ Gallagher says it is ‘massively beneficial’ to have Karl Lacey involved with the Donegal senior football team

Lacey is a selector with Declan Bonner’s team, and as a former marauding defender for Donegal, he has plenty in common with Eoghan ‘Ban’.

Gallagher listens attentively when Lacey speaks, and takes in all the advice he receives.

“It has been massively beneficial, obviously given his experience and his background.

“He has done a sports degree as well so he is a very intelligent person and you could see how much he has thought about the game when he was playing so it is great to have someone with that much experience in Declan’s backroom team.”

The comparisons with Lacey are not just confined to their playing styles either.

Gallagher is fond of the white boots, just like the 2012 Footballer of the Year, and he explained why he started to wear them.

“A few years ago, a few bucks were getting onto me; I was wearing Copa Mundials – old classics – and that I would not wear ‘flair’ boots, so I showed up day with a pair of white boots for a club game and they haven’t come off since.”

Those white boots haven’t let him down this season, and he will hope to impress again in them against the Mourne men in Clones.
