ARE you an aspiring photographer? Or would you like to highlight the work being done by volunteers in your community? This competition could be for you.
The Donegal Volunteer Photography competition is back following a highly successful run last year.
Its launch took place at the Donegal County Museum on Tuesday.
The competition aims to shine a light on the hard work being carried out by volunteers across the county while showcasing some of the fantastic photography talent we have here in Donegal.
With two categories to enter into this year, there is even more chance that you can win one of the excellent prizes that are up for grabs.
The Heritage Category, sponsored by Donegal County Museum, seeks to highlight the work being done to sustain the culture of the county.
Donegal Volunteer Centre will sponsor The Volunteering in Action category. This category focuses on the various volunteer roles that are being carried out by people day after day to improve our communities.
Caroline Carr from the Donegal County Museum was among those to attend Tuesday’s event.
”The annual John McDermott prize is awarded to photographs in the ‘Volunteering in Donegal Heritage’ category which showcases the important cultural work being done across the county,” she said.
“The people are doing wonderful things to keep our heritage alive, and we celebrate them.”
One of the main organisers of the competition is Eamonn Bonner of the Donegal Volunteer Centre.
“It’s an opportunity for people to enter their photographs to highlight the scale and variety of work that’s done on a voluntary basis in Donegal by dedicated volunteers.”
The Donegal News are once again partnering with the competition and editor Diarmaid Doherty said the newspaper is delighted to once again be involved.
“It offers us an opportunity to share the great work being carried out by the Donegal County Museum and Donegal Volunteer Centre,” he said.
An exhibition will open on Culture Night, September 19. This exhibition will run to the end of October and will feature photographs that were submitted to the competition.
If you would like to enter this competition you can visit the Donegal Volunteer Centre Facebook page or website for full terms and conditions.
Entries should be sent to info@volunteerdonegal.ie by August 24.
